Engineering is Elementary
Projects Time Line:
August – September (Quarter 1) 2013 – Plants biology
Students explore plants biology and design plant packages for shipping. In this unit, students learn the rapidly growing field of package engineering. Students have to design how to carry a plant and keep it safe for several days while also ensuring it has the light, air, and moisture it needs.
October – December (Quarter 2) 2013 - Mechanical Engineers
Students have the chance to think like mechanical engineers and use their knowledge of wind to design and create machines that can be used to capture wind energy. Students will learn renewable energy sources and explore different materials and shapes to catch the wind.
January – March (Quarter 3) 2014 – Simple Machines
Students will learn about simple machines, which makes work easier and safer. In this unit, students will compare their inventions to factory productions and explore the benefits and disadvantages of an assembly line.
April – May (Quarter 4) 2014 – Natural System of Pollination.
Students will learn to think as agricultural engineers to design and improve hand pollinators that will work with different model flowers.
